My Love for the Elevation Runs Deep

This will be my second blog about the Elevation Hoodie by New Horizons. I guess this must mean I REALLY love it! I have made a number of them since my last post and thus, I have some new tips. This was my first kids version and I used some strike offs from Crookshanks (Canada). I always get a little more nervous when I'm sewing strike offs, so I didn't do this one my usual way of serging and hoping for the best. For this one I actually found it easiest to sew the 'V' with my sewing machine - but I didn't go all the way, I just sewed the 'V' part itself and that kept everything in place enough that I could serge it. This was pretty quick and easy (and not nearly as risky as serging and crossing my fingers).

I also tried my hand at grommets, which admittedly I hadn't done until now. My six year old was most impressed!
I still cut each piece, place a clip on the backs so I can keep track easily when I go to assemble, and put all fabric pieces with their pattern piece (this seems to save me a ton of thinking, guessing, and time).

For this hoodie I decided to omit the welt pocket - mostly because as much as I love them, I really didn't want to cut into this beautiful fabric. Instead, I printed some of the stars from the Halla kids Stardust shirt and appliqued them on. I have had a ton of questions about how this is done, and I have to give credit to my friend Leila (from DW Apparel) because she was the one who taught me. Basically you cut your shape, put interfacing on the back, and sew it onto your garment - really, it's that easy!
**I do realize the sweater is a little big on him, but we are nearing the end of the winter and I wanted it to fit him for a long time. I made this one out of cotton/lycra and I sized up. This is a size 7 and he is generally a size 6.
